Leon Wiese 1927 – 2020
Leon Wiese was born to Esther and Albert Wiese on November 21, 1927, in Glencoe, Minnesota. Leon graduated from Glencoe High School and proceeded to join the Merchant Marines. After discharge from the service, he went to photography school in New Hampshire. Leon then started working as a truck driver hauling granite from Minnesota to Pennsylvania from the local granite mines in Minnesota.
On August 12, 1950, he married Kathleen June Fiene in Billings, Montana. At that point he was drafted into the Army and served in Germany and Fort Lewis, Washington during the Korean War. Upon his return to Billings, he started his glazing career working for PPG glass. In 1961, Leon moved his family to Las Vegas, Nevada, and worked for Olson Glass. In 1971, he moved back to Billings and worked for Lindsey Lumber, Michotte Glass and D & D Door & Glass up to his retirement.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on stained glass projects and playing cards with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Esther Cunningham and Albert Wiese; his wife June Wiese; son Gregory Wiese; and sister Audrey Thiele. He is survived by two daughters Laurie (Randy) Freeck and Dorene (Gus) Lawson. He is also survived by five grandchildren – Kendra (Scott) Moran, Corrine (Jeremy) Robinette, Matthew (Sara Hillner) Freeck, Devon (Rebecca) Lawson and Megan Lawson. Leon also had six great grandchildren – Miranda Lawson, Jeremiah Robinette , Alice Lawson, Chase Moran, Caitlyn Moran and Cassie Moran.
Services will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Billings, MT at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 14, 2020, 1603 St. Andrews Drive, Billings, MT. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank The Springs @ Grand Park and Stillwater Hospice during the final years of his life. The family has suggested that any memorials be made to either Our Savior Lutheran Church in Billings, Montana, or Stillwater Hospice.
