John Michael ‘Mike’ Spartz passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017.
He was born on October 8, 1943, to Ray and Bea Spartz. They lived on the family farm near Fairfield, MT with older sisters, Charlene (Johnny) Meshnik, Delores (Gene) Schrock, and younger brother, Fred Spartz. Mike worked construction in Missouri and Montana, including the missile silos that were installed in the early 60’s.
Mike married Linda Tjaden in 1965. He attended college in Bozeman, then transferred to Eastern to finish his chemistry degree in 1967. They had three children, Michelle Brooks, Wade (Maria) and Bret (Ana).
Mike was the head chemist at the Billings Conoco Refinery for many years. He retired to raise his “pet” cattle and horses and enjoy the outdoor life that Montana, Canada and Alaska offered, especially boating, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren: Michael, Hunter, Isabel, Bethany, Amaya and Nikolas.
During the last years of his life, he spent winters in Wickenburg, Arizona, with his companion, Linda Guzman.
He will be sorely missed by his family and the many friends he made over the years.
Mike was cremated, per his request. It is also his wish to have services later this summer so no one has to travel in bad weather. Memorial services will be in June in Billings and Fairfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society. The E-card can be sent to email@example.com.
