Dad (Donald) passed away peacefully on December 17th surrounded by his family, after a long illness.
Dad was born in Terry, MT on May 30th, 1927, to Albert and Eunice Ross. He was the oldest of 7 children. He lived most of his life in Billings, MT. He joined the Navy at age 17 to serve in WW2. He was later recalled to serve in the Korean War. He returned to Billings and married Helen Louise Hoff. To this union was born 3 children.
Dad worked as a Postal Carrier and later became a Training Officer for the BIA. After retirement, he drove a school bus for Ryder Transportation in Billings for 7 years.
After his wife Louise passed in 2008, he remarried to Hattie Gilliam. They were married for a wonderful, loving 6 years.
Dad was a man of many talents including beautiful woodwork. He was our “go to man” for answers, advice, facts and information. A wealth of intelligence!!! He remembered everything he read or experienced. Oh the stories he could tell!!!
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Louise Ross, sister Kaye Ross and granddaughter Angela Napier.
He is survived by his children, Anthony Ross (Billings), Mitchell Ross (Denver) and Jennifer Napier (Shepherd), 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Delores Gerber (Billings), Ramona Downs (Molt), Marilyn Vaughn (Corning, CA), Wendy Willis (Billings) and brother Timothy Ross (Billings).
A memorial to celebrate his life will be Saturday, December 22nd from 2:00 to 4:00 pm @ 990 Calico Ave in Billings.
The family would like to thank Riverstone Hospice for their care and support for dad, and helping his daughter Jennifer and wife Hattie to care for him in the home to the end.
