James “Jim” Paulsen passed from this world on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.  He was a wonderful person that always showed kindness, understanding, and offered a well-tuned ear to the troubles of others.  His entire career as an MSW in psychiatric social work exemplified this.

While growing up in Wisconsin, Jim enjoyed fishing with his two brothers Dick and Don.  He enjoyed many sports, but basketball was one of his favorites.  He played two years of basketball while in college.

After graduating from college, Jim married and moved to Deaver, Wyoming, where he taught high school science.  To further his education, they moved and he obtained his Master’s in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.  From this marriage he had two beautiful daughters, Tammy and Tracy.

In 1978 he moved to Billings, where he met and subsequently married Janice, who is the love of his life.  She cherished and supported him through all his remaining years.  Jim and Jan had no children of their own, but always adored Jim’s girls and all the nieces and nephews around them.

Jim lived a truly wonderful life in the ‘Wild West’ being fortunate to find his passion in hiking, camping, fishing, and viewing wildlife.  Jim taught his kids and grandkids to appreciate nature and the beauty of all living things.  He also loved golf, baseball, and music.  He was a gentle, loving, and compassionate man.

In his later years he developed Alzheimer’s disease, which took away his true spirit.  His loving wife, girls, and brothers stood by him.  His parents, Norm and Marge, preceded him in death.  He is survived by his wife Janice, his brothers Dick (Sandy), and Don (Margie), daughters Tammy (Mark) Going, Isabella and Logan, and Tracy (Derick) Callen, Cooper and Walker.  Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held July 27th, 2018 at 1pm at Heights Family Funeral Home.  Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Jim to the charity/foundation of their choice.
