Eugene Roy Niles was born on December 5, 1952, and quietly left this world behind him on March 3, 2020.

Gene “Beanie” Niles was born in Cody, Wyoming, to Bob and Emily Niles. Growing up in Wyoming instilled in him a love of the outdoors that built the lifelong hobbies of hunting, fishing, camping, and boating.

After high school, Gene attended Northwest College in Powell. While celebrating Labor Day in Meeteetse, Gene met Dorothy (Dot) Timmons at the County Fair. Gene and Dot were married on December 18, 1971, beginning a 22-year-long marriage filled with outdoor adventures, bowling and pool leagues. Gene and Dot moved to Billings after they married and this is where their son, Kevin Eugene, was born in 1973.  During these early years, Gene began his 45-year career with Tractor & Equipment.

Living in Billings near his mother, brothers, and little sister made way for long summer days boating at Cooney, winning golf tournaments with his brothers, and building his reputation as a champion pool player.  Gene loved watching Kevin grow while attending countless baseball games and wrestling matches. Every holiday you would find the whole Niles family eating around connected card tables and playing Gin and Cribbage.

In 1995, Gene was blessed with another son, Thomas James, and Gene’s life became even fuller.  Gene was intentional about his relationships and his annual hunting trip was a highlight for himself and his brothers.

Just when Gene’s heart couldn’t hold any more joy, God gave him grandchildren.  Kaitlyn Grace, Tyler Russell, and Jordan Robert were Gene’s pride and joy and he loved being a Grandpa, or Papa as they call him.

Gene will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends for his quick wit, his weird sense of humor, and his enjoyment of a good, subtle joke.  Gene is preceded in death by his father Bob and his beloved mother, Emily. He will now rest in peace aside his brother Bobby overlooking the Meeteetse fairgrounds where they once raised a whole lot of Cain.

Gene is survived by his sons, Kevin and Thomas; three granchildren, Kaitlyn, Tyler, and Jordan; brother George (Deb); sister Della; six nieces and nephews; and his dear friend Sue, who carry on in life with loving memories.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020, 10:00 a.m., at Heights Family Funeral Home.
