John A. Myrstol, 65 of Huntley, MT, formerly of Clyde Park and Colstrip, passed away at St. Vincent Healthcare on April 13, 2020, after a 5 month battle with cancer.
John was born on June 28, 1954 in Big Timber, to Don and Violet (Gibby) Myrstol. He was raised in Clyde Park, where he graduated from high school. John pursued various jobs over the years. Following high school, he and his brother Carl logged in the Clyde Park area. In 1975 he moved to Colstrip and went to work at the newly constructed Montana Power Plants 1 and 2. He worked as a mechanic and welder there for 20 years, before his early retirement in 1995. John and his wife Roberta moved back to Clyde Park where he was in charge of the water department and the “Town Guy” doing snow removal, mowing and whatever else people needed. They later moved to Huntley to be closer to family and he took a job doing maintenance at Rimrock Foundation, which he did for 12 years before officially retiring. There wasn’t a job he couldn’t do!
John loved being outdoors, doing anything except for fishing. He was an avid golfer, even achieving a Hole-In-One at Eagle Rock Golf Course. He also enjoyed hunting with his brothers and brothers-in-law! John was a practical joker with a great sense of humor and loved a good laugh. But above all, he loved his family.
He is survived by his wife Roberta Myrstol of Huntley; children Jason (Tara) Myrstol of Sacramento, CA and Jenny (Eric) Vandersloot of Bozeman; Roberta’s children Jason (Maria) Cook of Topeka, KS and Cory (Lori) Cook of Rogers, MN; 5 grandchildren Halle and Cooper Vandersloot, Tristen, Kennedy and Mason Cook; siblings Carl, Donnie, Eileen, Betty, Mary Ann, and Nancy; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Lena May Murphy.
Per John’s request, no services will be held. Cremation has taken place and his family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at a later date. Heights Family Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
