Rion Mitchell Miles brightened everyone’s world from March 19, 1954 until February 18, 2019.
Rion passed away at home, in the comfort of his wife’s arms, after he had spent the past two
and a half years battling pancreatic cancer.
A few years after graduating from high school in Canon City, CO. Rion worked on the Alaska
pipeline, arriving in Fairbanks on his 21st Birthday in 1975. He married Shelly Miles, the love of
his life in 1977. From that union came the light of his life, his two sons, Mitchell & Nick.
Everything Rion did was oriented around his family and close friends. He lived an exceptional
life and spent an un-measurable amount of time helping others. Whether he was plowing the
neighbors’ driveways or volunteering his time and resources for the local search and rescue
dive team, Rion would pride himself on being prepared and taking the extra step to do a job
right the first time. Anyone who knew Rion would be well aware of his passion for fishing, as
well as his love of working on his varied and numerous projects. He had proven time and time
again, that there wasn’t a thing he could not build, fix or engineer.
Rion spent his entire career in the construction field, primarily on pipelining jobs throughout the
country. His accomplishments, accolades, awards and certifications are plenty, spanning
multiple decades of diligence and dedication to providing for his family. Rion was elected as the
Business Manager at the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 400, a position he
retired from in 2016.
Rion was preceded in death by his mother Joyce Craft, his father Leslie Miles and by his
firstborn son Mitchell Miles.
He is survived by his wife Shelly Miles, son & daughter-in-law Nickalas & Michaela Imlay-Miles,
daughter-in-law Krissy Miles, grandson Julian Miles, lifelong friend Danny Relich, brothers
Morris Miles (Vicki), Scott Miles (Alisa), sister Helen Miles (Kevin), stepmother Goldie Miles,
stepbrothers Tom Nunn & Nathan Nunn (Mary), stepsister Lynette Duran (Lawrence) and
numerous nieces & nephews around the world.
A memorial will be held at a later date TBA.
In lieu of flowers or considerations, the family has asked that donations be made to his
Grandson’s college fund by check to: Julian Miles, UTMA, Valley Federal Credit Union, 1445
Main Street, Billings, MT 59105.
