Lawrence Lee, 104, of Billings and formerly of Clyde Park, passed away Saturday Jan.6, 2018 at Parkview Care Center in Billings.

Lawrence was born Sep. 2, 1913 in Elgin, IL to William and Edna (Rahn) Lee. He grew up and attended school in Illinois but moved to Orlando, FL for his senior year graduating there in 1931.

He later hitch-hiked to Wyoming where he herded sheep in the Casper area for a number of years.

He came to Montana in the late 1930’s and herded sheep in the Wilsall area acquiring his own herd and buying ranchland on Brackett Creek, outside of Clyde Park.

Lawrence joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in September 1942, serving for 10 months in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre as a turret gunner on the B29 Bomber. He was honorably discharged in May 1946.

On November 25, 1947 Lawrence married Mary Hudecek in Livingston, and the couple moved to the ranch on Brackett Creek where they farmed and ranched until 2008, they moved to Shepherd where he resided until August 2017.

Lawrence had a passion for woodworking, making everything from small cedar and keepsake boxes to large cedar and hope chests, he was an avid golfer and a dedicated Chicago Cubs fan

He loved people and made friends wherever he went.

He is survived by son Mike of Capitan, NM, Daughters Frances (Gary) Dettwiler of Billings and Jeanie (Jack) Weimer of Rock Springs, WY. Six grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary and 2 sisters.

Cremation has taken place and services will be held at a later date.
