Danny Wayne Johnson passed away on Sunday, November 4th, 2018, at the age of 61 after a decade long battle with sarcoidosis. He was the youngest of Melvin David and Mary Margaret (Stratton) Johnson’s four children. As a young child, Danny was always curious about how things worked. He could often be found tearing apart electronics and reinventing new and better systems. You never knew when you turned on a light switch what might happen! As a teen he had a huge slot car race track and always knew how to tweak the cars to make his the fastest. Danny was blessed with an intelligence that often surprised and baffled his family when he tried to explain something so simple to him but so complicated to the rest of us. A native of Billings, Montana, Dan graduated from Billings Senior High and worked in multiple fields before retiring after over 30 years in analyzer maintenance at ExxonMobil. A master of all trades, Dan was known for working with his hands and ultimately built his own house with a magnificent garden, just like his dad. He was the tech genius of the family, building everything from laptops to smart home systems. He could turn on and off his house lights, his heating system, and his sprinkler system remotely before that was even a thing! He researched and championed healthy, organic eating and loved to stubbornly argue politics. After being diagnosed with sarcoidosis, he researched and became an expert at understanding his disease and advocated for an alternative method of treatment. His doctor often ended visits with “Thanks for the education, Danny!” Danny is preceded in death by his father and is survived by his mother, Mary Johnson of 92 years and his son, Drew Johnson. He is also survived by his siblings, Linda Baker and Joyce Zinkowich Wanner (Kenny) of Billings, and Rick Johnson (Cheryl) of Sandpoint, Idaho as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews who all adored him. The family would like to thank the many medical professionals who helped Dan during the last years of his life. Dr. Manny and the ICU staff at the Billings Clinic, Dr. Stella, Dan’s case manager, Heidi, and the entire staff of Advanced Care Hospital of Montana worked tirelessly alongside him to battle the devastating effects of sarcoidosis. A Memorial Vigil will be held at 6pm on Friday, November 9th. The Funeral Service will be at 10am on Saturday, November 10th. Both services will be at Mary Queen of Peace Church, Billings, MT. There will be a reception following the Funeral Service at noon and the location will be announced at both services. At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (stopsarcoidosis.org) or American Transplant Foundation (americantransplantfoundation.org).
