Melvin “Mel” D. Harris, 84, of Billings, passed away peacefully at home on November 15, 2017.

Mel was born to Dwight and Hazel (Petrik) Harris in Fairview, MT, on October 12, 1933. He graduated from Fairview High School and was involved in National Guard Reserves.

Earlier, Mel was involved in equipment sales. Later, he worked in road construction. He loved horses, hunting, and being outdoors. He was also the president of the Lockwood Little League for three years.

Mel is survived by his wife Betty; children, Rex Shipman, Connie (Mark), Petz, Michael Harris, Diane Schmidt, Shelly Harris, Jon (Melody) Harris; and sister-in- law Lynora Harris. Mel had nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Marvin, Harvey and Dolph; his son Jody and sister-in-law Pat Harris.

A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. December 2, at Yellowstone Lutheran Brethren Church, 852 Governors Blvd., Billings, MT.
