Mark William Fowler, Jr., 45, of Billings, passed away in Broomfield, CO, where he was being treated for Alpha 1 Antitrypsin deficiency. He had been fighting his illness, with strength, since 2005.

Mark was born on August 31, 1974 in Conrad, MT to Jurine Dee (Kleiv) and Mark W. Fowler, Sr. The family lived in Shelby for several years before moving to Billings, where he attended school at Broadwater Elementary, Lewis and Clark and Senior High School.  He was part of the Culinary Program at MSUB College of Technology before they terminated the program, but he developed many skills to become a culinary chef.  He worked in various kitchens in Billings, with the last 8 years as a chef at Jake’s Downtown.  He had a passion for cooking and was very talented in the craft.

When not working at the restaurant, Mark could be found in the outdoors! He loved fishing the Big Horn, hunting with his nieces and nephews, spending time at the Clark’s cabin on the West Boulder and hiking miles and miles of trails with his wife Jeri! They even back-country hiked for their honeymoon. Jeri remembers they went on a 26 mile hike on the “Beaten Path” from Cook City to East Rosebud Lake. After reaching East Rosebud Lake, they discovered they had left the keys to the second car in the first car and had to hike back making it a 52 mile hike.  They loved the time together and the memories it created.  Mark married Jeri Burnside at the Perfect Place in Billings, Montana on September 18, 1999.

Mark showed persistence and determination throughout his battle with the disease. The day before he passed away he was determined to get healthy and go fishing with Randy in Colorado. He had a deep love for his family and friends. He loved being with his buddies, whether it was enjoying a cold beer, fishing or hanging out at home.  He had a special relationship with his mother and sister Jodie. Their bond was deep and full of love. Mark will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Mark was preceded in death by his son Jakob William Fowler, Aunt Susan Fowler, grandmother Rosemary Fowler, grandpa William Fowler, Grandma Kleiv, Grandpa Kleiv.

He is survived by his wife Jeri Fowler of Billings, mother Jurine “Dee” Urdahl and her husband Randy of Broomfield, CO; father Marcy of Spokane; sisters Jodie Fowler of WA; Karissa Urdahl and Kelsey Urdahl of CO: Tom and Karen Kleiv of FL; Ray and Karen Kleiv of MT; many nieces and nephews, cousins and Jeri’s extended family who were close to Mark.
