Donnell Eugene Burnett, age 70, passed away peacefully January 4, 2019 in his home with his wife by his side.
He was born on November 5, 1948 in Plentywood, MT to Clifford L. and Jean E. Burnett. He married his highschool sweetheart, Susan J. Lehfeldt, August of 1968. He is the much loved father of Patti (Dave) Reisinger, Scott (Courtney) Burnett, and Stacey (Scott) Hughes and brother of Arnie (Nettie) Burnett, Dixie (Leonard) Guardipee, and the late Gayla (Rick) Debuff. Grandfather of Sarah, Skyler, Holter, Parker, Hope, and Karen.
After graduating high school, Donnell began work for Sweetheart Bakery in Billings and eventually climbed his ladder to managing Eddie’s Bakery in Great Falls, MT. At the age of 40, he made the decision to change paths and enrolled in nursing school. His kindness and compassion for others made him a remarkable nurse, where he specialized in oncology. He raised his family full of memories of camping, boating, and fishing. He and Sue enjoyed their trips to Alaska, catching halibut. In his later years, he found joy in gardening, yard work and baking.
Donnell was only 21 when his father, Clifford, who was a beloved teacher and superintendent, passed away from a rare lung disease. Donnell cared for his mother, Jean, until her death in December 2015. He is also preceded in death by his younger sister, Gayla.
Rosary will be held on Wednesday, January 9th, at 5pm and the service will be held Thursday, January 10th, at 11am with potluck reception, all at the Heights Family Funeral Home in Billings. A brief graveside service will follow where Donnell will be laid to rest at Mountview Cemetery. Family will be dressed in denim attire on Thursday in his memory.
