James Michael (Mike) Bertrand passed away on Sunday September 1st, 2019 at Riverstone Hospice surrounded by family.
He was born on February 7, 1954 to James J. & Mary Jean Bertrand in Miles City, Montana. He attended Sacred Heart, Washington School and graduated from Custer County High School in 1972. In 1976, Mike was blessed with a beautiful daughter Jennifer, who would bless him with three amazing grandsons.
Mike spent most of his younger years hunting and playing sports. He excelled in baseball as a catcher for the Miles City Mavericks & Dirty Dozen Plus 1. The Mavs were one questionable call away from a state championship over the Billings Royals in 1971.
Mike spent his adult life as a certified chef and spent several years as the Food and Beverage Director at the Brighton Ski Resort in Brighton, Utah, as well as the Crystal Mountain Resort in Enumclaw, Washington.
Mike was a stranger to nobody, and his quick wit & sense of humor was unprecedented.
Mike is survived by his father James J. Bertrand of Billings, his daughter Jennifer, (Mitch Jorgensen) and her three sons Jordan, Reeves & Maddux of North Dakota, his sister Jacqueline (Charles) Smith and their son CJ, of Colorado, & brother Tracy (Stacy) and their two sons Stuart & Carson of Billings. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jean Bertrand, and his sister Katherine Marie Bertrand (Gerace).
A heartfelt thank you to all of Mikes dear friends who helped create a strong support system during some difficult times. Also, a special thanks to Riverstone Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Mike.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, September 5th at the Heights Family Funeral Home at 11:00am. Reception to follow. Donations may be sent to Riverstone Health.
