John was born on January 18, 1934, to parents Thorval and Gladys Aalgaard in Big Timber, where he grew up and received his education. After school, John joined the Army and became an MP in Korea. After returning home, he met the love of his life, Lauretta Bromgard. They were married October 8, 1954, and were together for over 64 years. They were blessed with 7 children: Jackie (Loren), Larry (Nancy), Sandra, Sherry (Rich), Barry (Joni), Tammie (Rene), and the late Terry.
John worked on many ranches in Big Timber before becoming a truck driver for 9 years. He then joined the Billings Police Department, becoming a motorcycle cop. He went on to train and work with dogs for the K-9 unit until he retired in 1977. John loved working with wood, and built decks for and sided many homes in Billings. The family is blessed to have many items built by John.
John and Lauretta made their dream come true by owning a restaurant for 17 years, where many friendships were made.
John was preceded in death by his parents, son Terry, and 4 siblings. Surviving John are his wife Lauretta; his children; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brother Thelmer (Patti); sister in law Monica; and many nephews, nieces, and friends.
